ChaturmukhaBasadi is a famous tourist attraction situated on a rocky hill at Karkala, which about an hour drive from Udupi.”Chatur” meaning four and “Mukha” meaning faces or entrances aptly describes the ChautrmukhaBasadi. It has four identical pillared entrances from four directions. All four entrances lead to the main hall called Garbhagriha. Enclosed in Garbhagriha are idols of “YakshiPadmavati” and 24th Jaina Tirthankara. Also there are standing statues of Suryata, Ara and Malli.

Built in 1432 under the reigning Jain king, VirPandyadeva, ChaturmukhaBasadi has an interesting architecture. The whole structure is a square hall supported by 108 pillars. The flat roof is made up of large granite slabs.

The whole place is closely nestled in serene atmosphere which gives a sense of peace and tranquillity.

Chaturmukha Basadi is one of the main attractions in Karkala as it appears in the inscriptions as TribhuvanaTilakaJinaChaityala and RatnarayaDhama.
